On Thursday 19 September, Sanaz Moghim, professor at the Department of Civil Engineering of the Sharif University of Technology (Iran), gave an interesting talk at the UPV promoted by the Research Institute of Water and Environmental Engineering (IIAMA).

During her presentation, the Iranian researcher shared her latest work related to the management and mitigation of the effects of climate change, focusing her intervention on the impact that clouds have on the development of extreme phenomena such as heat waves, floods and droughts.

Indeed, in her talk highligthed the complexity of the effect of clouds on the climate system and the need to assess the feedbacks that different types of clouds

‘Clouds have a direct impact on the climate system, as depending on their typology they can contribute to an increase or decrease in temperature and precipitation,’ said Sanaz MOghim.

In the confernece, she also discussed how climate change may affect cloud characteristics, such as thickness, altitude and cloud cover.

Finally, the study presented by Professor Moghim explained both the direct and indirect impacts of climate change on clouds, with a particular focus on cirrus clouds.
